ALL political parties that have expressed support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will sign an agreement tomorrow, Berita Harian reported.
Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof said they will sign the agreement on cooperation ahead of Anwar’s motion of confidence in parliament on Monday.
He said it will involve all party leaders who previously expressed support for the prime minister.
“All the party leaders have already discussed (the matter). In fact today, I returned to have a meeting at Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to see the content of the agreement,” said the GPS chief whip.
A vote of confidence is scheduled to be tabled during the two-day parliament meeting starting December 19.
Anwar said a motion of confidence will allow him to lead the country with a clear mandate based on the majority support of MPs.
He said the matter was clarified during his recent audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“From a legal aspect, it isn’t needed. The attorney-general has also said it isn’t needed because of the clear majority and the powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong are also clear,” he said.
Fadillah, however, said he had no information about the essence of the agreement.
He said the issue involving promises in the manifesto was also not discussed at yesterday’s cabinet meeting.
“This was because the coalition government cannot just follow a manifesto from any single party. The current focus is reducing the cost of living,” he said.
Earlier, Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal, in a statement, said the political parties supporting the unity government are expected to sign an agreement in an effort to strengthen the Anwar-led government.
Shafie said he will be present at the ceremony in line with Warisan’s support for Anwar as prime minister and the unity government.
“We will hold a meeting on Friday to sign the agreement between Pakatan Harapan and other parties. I will be present at that time,” he was quoted as saying. – December 15, 2022.
