MALAYSIA logged 1,241 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, taking the cumulative number of infections in the country to 5,013,724.

Six Covid-19-related fatalities were reported – two each in Kedah and Negri Sembilan, and one each in Johor and Perak – taking the death toll to 36,784.

Of the new infections, Selangor posted the most with 472 cases, followed by Sarawak (138) and Kuala Lumpur (108).

Other states and territories reporting new cases are Malacca (102), Penang (61), Perak (58), Kedah (56), Sabah (54), Kelantan (42), Negri Sembilan (32), Pahang (31), Putrajaya (31), Johor (24), Terengganu (18), Labuan (8) and Perlis (6).

Active cases dropped to 17,215 after 1,567 patients recovered from the illness.

Among the active cases, 16,138 people were in home quarantine (93.7%) and 1,077 in hospitals (6.3%).      

There were 67 patients in intensive care, 43 of whom required respiratory assistance. – December 15, 2022.
