Nearly 3,000 people sheltering from floods

THE number of people seeking shelter from dropped in Pahang and Terengganu, while those in Kelantan and Perak rose slightly as of 8pm.

In PAHANG, 435 people were in shelters compared to 449 earlier in the day, with 258 people in SMK Seri Semantan in Temerloh compared to 339 earlier, with 35 people in two centres in Bera.

Some 142 people were in SK Sinar Mutiara, Sungai Miang, Pekan, tonight.

The water level of Sungai Triang in Bera is still at danger level, while five rivers, Sungai Jempol and Sungai Pahang in Lubuk Paku, Maran; Sungai Pahang in Paloh Hinai, Pekan; Sungai Belat, Kuantan and Sungai Keratong, Rompin are at warning level.

In TERENGGANU, there were 80 people in shelters, with 66 of them housed in Kuala Terengganu, 12 in Besut and two in Setiu.

In KELANTAN, 2,018 people from Pasir Mas were in shelters this evening.

They are being housed in seven relief centres, with 712 people in SK Tok Deh, 47 in SK Kedai Tanjong, 544 in SK Gual Periok, 73 in Masjid Mukim Padang Licin, 157 in PPS Putat Tujoh, 251 in SK Kubang Kual and 234 in SK Sri Kiambang.

Meanwhile in PERAK, 154 people were sheltering in four relief centres, SMK Abd Rahman Talib, Hilir Perak; Sek Agama Rakyat Padang Serai, Manjung; Dewan Sek Keb Slim River, Mualim and Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Tersusun Teluk Memali.

In JOHOR, 51 people from Segamat were affected. They are being housed in Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak and Balai Raya Kampung Kuala Paya.

According to the Malaysian Meteorology Department, as of 6.55pm, a heavy rain and thunderstorm alert was issued for the districts of Johor Baru, Mersing, Kulai and Kota Tinggi. – Bernama, December 13, 2022.
