UMNO will accept any motion to be brought to its upcoming general assembly as long as it will strengthen the party, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

The party’s priority is to close ranks after suffering a heavy blow in the November 19 general election, he said when asked about Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos wanting to bring a motion for the Umno president’s and deputy president’s post to be uncontested to the Umno general assembly.

On whether Umno will consider the suggested motion, Zahid said, “No, we will review all aspects as what’s important is that we must close ranks.”

The Umno general assembly has been postponed to January 11-14 next year. It was originally scheduled for December 21-24.

Zahid also told reporters after attending the Malaysian Chinese Women Entrepreneurs Association’s 10th anniversary event in Kuala Lumpur tonight that Bersatu was established to destroy Umno, adding that the party, especially the grassroots, should be aware of Bersatu’s objectives and reject it totally. – Bernama, December 11, 2022.
