PKR will start mobilising it machinery for state elections in six states in January, Rafizi Ramli said.
In a series of tweets, the PKR deputy president said the campaign would be a continuance of the one that saw the party and its Pakatan Harapan partners capture 82 seats in November
“The campaign will be as it was before we became the government, based on the PKR and @ayuhMYmovement platforms without the involvement of any of the government’s money or time,” said Rafizi.
Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan did not hold their state polls during the general election. The state governments had said then that they wished to prepare instead for the floods that were customary during the monsoon season.
Last month Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the state was in discussions with Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan to hold their state elections at the same time next year to save money.
Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun confirmed this on Wednesday.
“Some of us spoke unofficially when we met at the recent Conference of Rulers meeting. We appear to be agreeable to it but that was only at the menteri besar level,” Aminuddin said.
“We all still have to consult our party presidents, deputy presidents. We have agreed at the preliminary stage and this will be conveyed to the party leaderships.”
Rafizi today assured voters he will not let his party work interfere with his ministerial duties even as Perikatan Nasional continues to engage the government in a social media war.
“The responsibility of the government is to improve the people’s lives. During the time when my salary is being paid by the people, I will focus on my job as a minister. Outside working hours, I will confront PN and PAS,” Rafizi tweeted. – December 11, 2022.
