PEJUANG youth chief Dr Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin has resigned from his post to take responsibility for the party’s poor performance in the general election (GE15).
In a statement today, Abu Hafiz said his decision to quit effective today was reached after considering many factors, including feeling responsible for the party’s defeat in GE15.
Just days earlier, Abu Hafiz had urged the party to reconsider its decision to continue being part of Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA), saying that the party’s grassroots were keen to move in a different direction.
He said Pejuang needed to think deeply about continuing its role in GTA after all its candidates were defeated in GE15, even losing their deposits.
He added that party members were calling on Pejuang to consider working with any of the main political blocs to remain relevant in the national political landscape.
GTA was founded by Pejuang chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad to group together like-minded Malay political parties and civil societies to face GE15. Dr Mahathir is also the chairman of GTA.
Following GTA’s disastrous performance in GE15, Dr Mahathir had said that plans were afoot to continue keeping GTA and its registration as a coalition would be sought with the Registrar of Societies.
Abu Hafiz did not contest in GE15. – December 11, 2022.
