6 arrested for processing, selling ketum water in Penang


POLICE busted two syndicates processing and selling ketum water with the arrest of six men in two raids in Teluk Kumbar, Penang yesterday.

According to a statement by the Barat Daya district police headquarters, six men, aged between 23 and 52, were arrested under Ops Tapis, after a week of intelligence and information gathering.

“In the first raid, police arrested four men in a seaside hut in Kampung Nelayan and seized 30.05 litres of what is suspected to be ketum water, 500ml of cough mixture along with RM950 in cash, believed to be proceeds of the illicit sales,” the statement read.

The two other men were arrested in a second raid on a house in Pintasan Pasir Belanda, with 50kg of ketum leaves, 2,000ml of ketum water and processing equipment seized.

In a separate development, police detained three motorcyclists, in their 20s, for riding dangerously at high speeds under Ops Samseng Jalanan conducted in the Bayan Baru area from 10pm yesterday to 3am today. – Bernama, December
