THE cabinet meeting yesterday decided to retain the name of the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac), its minister Tiong King Sing said.
Tiong said in statement his focus would not only be on tourism, but also matters related to art and culture, which are important national treasures.
He gave the assurance he will protect the country’s arts and culture, as well as giving due recognition to the role of cultural activists and artists building the nation.
“I will ensure that they will be recognised for their contributions to the country, such as by reintroducing the National Art Award,” he added.
Tiong is one of 28 members of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s cabinet.
Meanwhile, Tiong said he would continue to practise an open-door policy and was prepared to hold engagement sessions with all parties to ensure the growth of the tourism, arts and culture industry.
Their contribution and role are necessary to bring the tourism industry, arts and culture to a higher level and recognised internationally, he said.
He urged all parties to give him the support, space and opportunity to lead Motac and promised to do his best. – Bernama, December 8, 2022.
