THE Padang Serai election results show the people lack confidence in the unity government, said Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said Malaysians were let down by the lies of Pakatan Harapan and BN leaders in the general election campaign.

“A lot of their supporters voted for PN (in Padang Serai),” the Pagoh MP said on Facebook today.

“To me, the lies told by Harapan and BN are the biggest electoral fraud ever and last night the voters in Padang Serai and Tioman clearly signified that they do not approve of the two coalitions.”

Yesterday, PN’s Azman Nasrudin won the Padang Serai parliamentary seat in Kedah by a margin of 16,260 votes.

Azman took 51,637 votes to PH’s Mohamad Sofee Razak’s 35,377.

Barisan Nasional’s C. Sivarraajh received 2,983 votes, while Independent candidate Sreanandha Rao received 846 votes, Pejuang’ Hamzah Abd Rahman collected 424 votes and Warisan’s Bakhri Hashim 149.

Polling for the seat on November 19 had to be postponed following the death of PH candidate M. Karupaiya.

However, BN retained the Tioman state seat in Pahang in the election which was held on the same day. Polling for the Tioman state seat was also deferred following the death of PN candidate Md Yunus Ramli.

BN candidate Johari Hussain won Tioman by a slender 573 votes.

The incumbent garnered 8,080 votes while his Perikatan Nasional rival Nor Idayu Hashim collected 7,509.

PH candidate Fadzli Ramly had dropped out of the contest after BN and PH agreed a no-contest deal.

Muhyiddin said the results of both elections showed the public was not impressed by the alliance between PH and BN.

“BN’s winning majority was cut almost half in Tioman while PN won in Padang Serai PN with twice the majority PH got in the last general election.

“This is proof the public has no confidence in the new unity government to administer the country” he said

Following the elections, PN now has 74 seats in parliament, PH (82), BN (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (23), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (6), Warisan (3), Independents (2) and Parti Bangsa Malaysia  and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat one each. – December 8, 2022.
