BARISAN Nasional candidate Johari Hussain has won the Tioman state seat in Pahang, by a slender 573 votes.

The incumbent garnered 8,080 votes, while his Perikatan Nasional rival Nor Idayu Hashim collected 7,509 votes.

There are 28,4365 voters on the rolls and the Election Commission pegged the final voter turnout at 58.4%.

Johari was in a five-way contest for the seat with Nor Idayu, Fadzli Ramly (Pakatan Harapan), Osman A. Bakar (Pejuang) and independent candidate Sulaiman Bakar, but Fadzli dropped out after BN and PH agreed a no-contest deal.

Johari had won the seat in the 2018 general election with a 1,280 vote majority.

With its win tonight, BN has 17 seats in the Pahang assembly, while partner PH has eight seats.

Across the house, PN also has 17 seats.

The election for the state seat was postponed following the death of Perikatan Nasional candidate Yunus Ramli, 61, on the morning of the general election on November 19. – December 7, 2022.
