1,649 new Covid cases, 16 deaths

MALAYSIA recorded 1,649 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the cumulative infections in the country since the onset of the pandemic to 5.004 million. 

A total of 16 deaths were reported yesterday, with half declared as dead on arrival (DOA).  

Seven fatalities were reported in Kedah, three in Selangor, two each in Perak and Pahang, and one each in Johor and Sabah.  

The latest fatalities raise the toll to 36,732, where 7,826 are DOA cases.  

Of the new infections, Selangor posted 530, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak with 170 each.  

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Malacca (126), Kedah (116), Kelantan (92), Penang (87), Sabah (79), Perak (59), Negri Sembilan (42), Pahang (42), Johor (40), Terengganu (34), Putrajaya (34), Labuan (20) and Perlis (8). 

Active cases dropped to 21,758 after 1,675 patients recovered from the illness.  

Among the active cases, 20,243 people are in home quarantine (93%) and 1,414 in hospitals (7%).      

There were 101 patients in intensive care, 64 of whom required respiratory assistance. – December 7, 2022.
