HOME Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he will discuss the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion in public funds by the previous government with Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
He said he would get the IGP’s views on the issue after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim brought the matter up during his media conference yesterday.
“He also made a general statement yesterday and said he would leave it to an investigative body to handle the matter in detail.
“Naturally, I will get views from the relevant investigative body. If it is related to the police, it is within our jurisdiction.
“If it’s related to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC), then it will investigate,” he said in Putrajaya today.
The use of more than RM600 billion in Covid-19 emergency funds has become a hot topic of debate since it was brought up by former Malacca chief minister Adly Zahari on November 15.
Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin said he was not afraid of investigation.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin said police would open an investigation paper on Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s claims of money politics during the general election if there was substantive proof.
“I believe in the professionalism of the police force, I give full room and freedom to Acryl and his team,” he added. – Bernama, December 6, 2022.
