MALAYSIA logged 1,576 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, taking the national tally since the onset of the pandemic to 5.002 million. 

Three coronavirus-linked deaths were registered – two in Johor and one in Perak – raising the toll to 36,716. 

Of the new infections, Selangor posted 637, followed by Kedah (146) and Sabah (100). 

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Kuala Lumpur (99), Malacca (99), Kelantan (96), Penang (82), Sarawak (79), Perak (51), Johor (40), Terengganu (39), Negri Sembilan (37), Pahang (29), Putrajaya (29), Labuan (7) and Perlis (6). 

Active cases dropped to 21,800 after 2,278 patients recovered from the illness. 

Among the active cases, 20,198 people are in home quarantine (92.7%) and 1,504 in hospitals (7.3%).     

There were 98 patients in intensive care, 69 of whom required respiratory assistance. – December 6, 2022.
