Malaysia exceeds 5 million Covid cases with 1,502 new infections

COVID-19 cases in Malaysia have cumulatively surpassed the 5 million mark as 1,502 new infections were logged yesterday. 

The total cases recorded in the country since the onset of the pandemic now stands at 5,000,332. 

Three coronavirus-linked deaths were reported – one each in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu – taking the death toll in the country to 36,713. 

Of the new infections, Selangor reported the most cases with 541, followed by Kuala Lumpur (160) and Malacca (111). 

Other states and territories that registered new cases were Sabah (102), Kedah (100), Penang (92), Perak (74), Sarawak (73), Pahang (46), Kelantan (45), Negri Sembilan (39), Johor (37), Putrajaya (37), Terengganu (26), Labuan (10) and Perlis (9). 

The Health Ministry reported 2,093 recoveries yesterday, reducing the number of active cases in the country to 22,505. 

Among the active cases, 20,889 people were in home quarantine (92.8%) and 1,512 in hospitals (7.2%).     

There were 104 patients in intensive care, 70 of whom required respiratory assistance. – December 5, 2022.
