PERIKATAN Nasional must not keep trying to undermine the new government but instead start playing the role of an effective opposition, Rafizi Ramli said.
The PKR deputy president and newly appointed economic affairs minister said it is now PN’s job to keep a check on Anwar Ibrahim’s government.
“Be a good opposition. Provide checks and balances, give good ideas and debate with facts,” he said in a video message today.
“If there are abuses in the government, please expose them,” he added.
“If possible, do break my record of being arrested numerous times and being sued 16 times (for exposing government scandals),” he said.
As for those in government, the Pandan MP urged them to work hard and prioritise the people.
“The people will be watching our every move. This is the time to work day and night to implement our ideas,” he said.
Rafizi said Pakatan Harapan had to partner with Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah to form a coalition government, adding that he was among the negotiators in the talks.
He said that was the only way as no single party or pact had won enough seats for a majority.
“Even if the PN had wanted to form a government, it would have had to work with these coalitions,” he said,
Anwar’s cabinet has come under scrutiny over the appointments of several ministers, including BN chair Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as deputy home minister.
Election candidates who lost were also given seats.
PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin called the cabinet the most disappointing in the nation’s history. – December 5, 2022.
