Give govt 100 days to prove itself, says analyst

Political analysts say 100 days would be the best period to assess the performance of Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, December 5, 2022.

ANWAR Ibrahim’s government should be given 100 days before its performance is evaluated, a political analyst said.

Associate professor Dr Azmi Hassan said anytime sooner would be too early to judge the cabinet’s performance.

“A hundred days is a good benchmark to assess their performance, to see which ministries and ministers have contributed to the country.

“In the next few days, the ministers should put out what they would like to achieve by then.

“If these targets are made public, then we can evaluate their (ministers’) performance,” he was quoted as telling the New Straits Times today.

Anwar’s cabinet has come under intense scrutiny over certain appointments, including that of Barisan Nasional chief Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as a deputy home minister.

There were also others who were made ministers despite losing in the general election.

Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin labelled the cabinet line-up as the “most disappointing” in the nation’s history.

The newly sworn-in ministers are set to start their work today after a special briefing with Anwar. – December 5, 2022.
