BILATERAL trade between Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is estimated to reach over US$7 billion (RM30.71 billion) by year-end – a remarkable jump from US$5.4 billion last year.
UAE Ambassador to Malaysia Khalid Ghanim Alghaith during his speech at the Middle Eastern country’s national day reception held in Kuala Lumpur recently, had said among sectors that contribute greatly to the increase are petrochemical, jewellery, machinery, and electrical appliances.
Alghaith also congratulated newly minted Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and said he looked forward to further enhancing bilateral relations between the UAE and Malaysia.
He highlighted the UAE’s guiding principles for the coming 50 years, also known as “Principles of 50”, in his speech, which was made available to Bernama through a statement.
He touched on the developments and achievements of the UAE in the areas of economy, science and technology, as well as cultural diplomacy, the statement added.
Tengku Laksamana Selangor Tengku Sulaiman Shah Al-Haj and Sarawak Yang diPertua Negeri’s wife Toh Puan Hajjah Raghad Kurdi Taib were among those who attended the reception.
The two countries had established a bilateral relationship in the early 1970s, followed by the opening of the Malaysian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi in 1983 and the UAE embassy in Kuala Lumpur in 1995. – Bernama, December 4, 2022.
