I declined Anwar’s invite to join cabinet, Gobind says

DAP national vice chairman Gobind Singh Deo said he declined to join the cabinet as he wanted to focus on his role as a lawmaker, but added he would assist the federal government in any way he could.

The Damansara MP said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had asked him to be part of the newly minted cabinet.

“However, after considering the matter, I informed him that I was unable to do so and that I would focus on my role as an MP and assist the government in all ways that I can moving ahead.

“I wish to thank him for asking me to be part of his cabinet. I again express my full confidence in his leadership and believe that he will be able to successfully take Malaysia to greater heights,” said the Damansara lawmaker in a Facebook post today.

The former communications and multimedia minister posted the brief statement after many had queried him about his absence in the cabinet announced by Anwar yesterday.

Anwar unveiled his 28-member unity government cabinet, adding that the list of deputy ministers would be announced soon.

The members of the new cabinet announced took their oaths of office in front of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in Istana Negara today. – December 3, 2022.
