Mat Sabu hopes for yet stronger ringgit to lower food costs

NEWLY minted Agriculture And Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu hopes the ringgit will continue to strengthen to reduce the cost of food imports.

“The change of government and the appointment of the prime minister have led to a sharp increase in our currency and we hope it will maintain and continue to improve,” said the Amanah president.

“Food imports will be cheaper if our currency continues to strengthen, that is our hope and the increase is indeed incredible in the 10 days after the election,” he said in Kulim last night.

The ringgit rose today to RM4.4 against the US dollar.

On the new line-up of ministers, Mohamad said the Anwar Ibrahim had kept his promise to keep his cabinet trim.

On whether if Amanah was satisfied with the number of its party representatives in the cabinet, he said the deputy ministers were yet to be named. – Bernama, November 23, 2022.
