PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim had no choice but to keep the finance portfolio for himself to prevent infighting in the unity government, political observers said.
International Islamic University of Malaysia’s Tunku Mohar Mohd Mokhtar said Anwar should not have taken the post of finance minister as he has much work to do as the new leader of the country.

I think if the Cabinet is not subservient to the PM as in the BN days, then the abuse is less likely to happen.. Cabinet can demand transparency. Anyway, with the rule that all projects must have open tender, it is again another check and balance by itself. I think its a brilliant move to stop the internal politicking that even held up the formation of the cabinet. This rent seeking cannot be stopped overnight
