PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he managed to cancel the order of a brand new Mercedes Benz S600 that was made by the previous administration.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman also confirmed that the order was made by one of the previous prime ministers but did not name the person.

“The Mercedes hasn’t arrived.  We will use whatever car that is available.”

“Actually, this Mercedes was ordered by a previous prime minister. So, I checked if I could cancel it and I managed to do that,” he said after chairing a PH presidential council meeting today.

Earlier, it was reported by Berita Harian, that the purchase of the Mercedes S600 was mooted by the Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration, before it was approved by Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government.

The car offered to Anwar for his daily use is estimated to cost more than RM1 million, depending on its specifications.

Yesterday, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said he decided to use the vehicle that is already available at his office and rejected the Mercedes S600.

Through a post on Facebook, the PKR president said the decision was made as he did not want any new expenses to be incurred.

Anwar, 75, who was sworn in as the 10th Prime Minister before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, previously announced that he would reduce unnecessary expenses in his administration. – November 28, 2022.
