PAKATAN Harapan (PH) should stop making comments that could potentially harm its working relationship with Barisan Nasional (BN) in the unity government, Nur Jazlan Mohamed said.

Referring to recent remarks by PH lawmakers, who advised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim against appointing MPs with ongoing court cases to his cabinet, the Johor Umno deputy chief said it could put the current government at risk.

“The time to issue fiery and rhetoric statements is over, since the people have spoken through the ballot box.

“Let me remind some individuals from PH not to be short-sighted and put Anwar’s government at risk,” Nur Jazlan said in a statement today.

Nur Jazlan was referring to recent remarks by Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim, where they advised against appointing lawmakers with ongoing court cases to the cabinet.

Nik Nazmi, who is also PKR vice-president, said leaving anyone with pending court cases out of the cabinet would prevent issues in the future.

Hassan also advised Anwar to ensure those selected for his cabinet were free from any court cases related to corruption and criminal breach of trust.

Nur Jazlan said those facing court cases should be judged in a court of law rather than the court of public opinion.

He said the justice system should be respected where one is “innocent until proven guilty”.

The Pulai Umno division chief said BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was magnanimous in uniting its 30 lawmakers, despite resistance from some of them, to support Anwar as the prime minister after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong decreed BN must be part of the unity government.

“Zahid did not hold PH’s wild accusations and mudslinging against BN during the election campaign period against Anwar or PH and acted in good faith (by backing him).

“Likewise, PH should repay Zahid’s sincerity by showing their genuine intention to make the new government stable and free from unnecessary politicking and criticisms that would hurt the long-term relationship between the blocs,” the former Pulai MP said.

Nur Jazlan called on all the members of the unity government to put their faith in Anwar and focus on the needs of the people.

Anwar leads a unity government comprising PH, BN, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, with support from Muda, Warisan, Parti Bangsa Malaysia and Independents. – November 28, 2022.

  • I agree with Nur Jazlan. The post of DPM must be filled with the recommendation from the party (UMNO) itself. If the party is OK then I think DSAI will also agree. Similarly, the Minsters from UMNO should be recommended by the party but their portfolios is the sole prerogative of the PM after consultation with the DPM. The rest should just shut up and let the PM handle this. Don't make his work harder in an already fragile situation.
There need to be compromises and a longer term view. Lets not try to have a perfect situation , BECAUSE IT SIMPLY DOES NOT EXIST!!!

  • Only an idiot would agree to this, a person with questionable character and having court cases should not even be considered, say whatever terms you want to put it cause to me and most well minded people of this country to be heard that you are on the take is as good you did. If you want to be a public servant by all means keep your nose clean else public service is not for you.
