FORMER prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has congratulated newly minted Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
“I congratulate Anwar on his appointment as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister. All the best,” said Dr Mahathir, who was Anwar’s former boss before the latter’s sacking in 1998.
Dr Mahathir, who is now the head of Pejuang, had sacked Anwar from Barisan Nasional’s cabinet in 1998.
They became political enemies for more than two decades before agreeing to put their differences aside in 2018 when Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election.
Their relationship again turned sour after Dr Mahathir could not agree to hand over his premiership to Anwar.
According to reports yesterday, Dr Mahathir’s son, Mukhriz, said Pejuang will be praying for Anwar’s success in the top post.
Mukhriz hoped that Anwar’s appointment would usher the nation into more stable times after enduring more than two years of instability. – November 25, 2022.
