PJ cops nab snatch thief in under 24 hours


PETALING Jaya police have arrested a man in less than 24 hours after he snatched the mobile phone of an elderly man who was waiting for his wife outside a petrol station in the city last Saturday morning.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said the 28-year-old man was nabbed at 5.40pm on the same day at Jalan PJS5, Petaling Jaya.

He said in the 11am incident on Saturday, the suspect had snatched the mobile phone of the 72-year-old man who was sitting on a chair outside the petrol station in SS1, Petaling Jaya.

“After questioning, the suspect confessed to the crime and led police officers to a house in Sungai Way. Police found the clothes the suspect had used in the crime, as well as four mobile phones which were believed to have been stolen,” Fakhruddin said in a statement today.

With the arrest of the suspect, police believe they have solved three robbery cases around Petaling Jaya, he said, adding that the suspect has 22 previous records including for drugs.

The suspect has been remanded until tomorrow and the case is being investigated under section 392 of the penal code. – Bernama, November 24, 2022.
