TERENGGANU Umno will lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate Perikatan Nasional (PN) funding, party state chief Ahmad Said said.

The state Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman and former Terengganu menteri besar claimed that PN had splurged excessive volumes of cash in the state during the general election campaign.

“Terengganu (Umno) has decided to ask MACC to investigate the source of PN’s funds put to use in the election, especially in this state,” Ahmad said.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim had previously claimed PN is the richest political coalition, receiving billions of ringgit for projects during the Covid-19 pandemic.

PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin rubbished Anwar’s claims, going as far to say that, as a relatively new political entity, his coalition was relatively poor compared to its rivals.

Malacca PH chief Adly Zahari also said that the coalition, if it wins the election, will launch an investigation into claims that Bersatu president Muhyiddin’s government had spent RM500 billion during the Covid-19 pandemic.

PN, thanks to PAS, recently swept all eight parliamentary seats in Terengganu for the first time in history.

PAS fielded seven candidates with Bersatu provided the eighth where they campaigned under the PAS logo, defeating Ahmad in Kemaman, and former PAS Syura Council secretary Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali in Kuala Nerus, who had jumped ship to BN. – November 24, 2022.
