Bursa Malaysia slightly higher mid-morning, recouping earlier losses

BURSA Malaysia recouped earlier losses, turning slightly higher at mid-morning as mild bargain hunting commenced, especially in the small-cap stocks following the recent selloffs. 

At 11.03am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained 0.65 of-a-point to 1,441.94 from yesterday’s close of 1,441.29. 

At 9.09am, FBM KLCI had eased 5.18 points from yesterday’s close to 1,436.11.

Market breadth turned positive with gainers leading losers 307 to 283, while 326 counters were unchanged, 1,385 untraded and 84 others suspended. 

Turnover stood at 1.01 billion units valued at RM465.18 million. 

Among the heavyweights, Maybank bagged three sen to RM8.57, Public Bank added one sen to RM4.30 and Petronas Chemicals rose four sen to RM8.74, while CIMB was flat at RM5.51. 

Meanwhile, IHH Healthcare slipped one sen to RM5.91, Tenaga trimmed three sen to RM8.41, and Hong Leong Bank lost six sen to RM20.50. 

Among the actives, Advance Synergy was flat at 18 sen, Eden gained 1.5 sen to 19 sen and Malayan United inched up half-a-sen to 10.5 sen, while ACE Market debutant, ECA Integrated soared by 55 sen to 72 sen with 88.85 million shares changing hands.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index earned 8.84 points to 10,256.0, the FBM Emas Shariah Index improved by 10.12 points to 10,389.38, the FBMT100 Index went up 8.6 points to 9,985.23, and the FBM 70 rose by 27.04 points to 12,230.67. 

The FBM ACE, however, decreased by 27.31 points to 4,945.12. 

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index added 15.59 points to 16,187.5, the Energy Index bagged 8.94 points to 738.22 and the Industrial Products and Services Index inched up 0.27 of-a-point to 179.12, while the Plantation Index declined 20.45 points to 6,821.77. – Bernama, November 23, 2022.
