ALMOST 200,000 consumers in Seberang Prai, Penang, will be affected by a 48-hour scheduled water cuts December 2-4, Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) said today.

The utility company said the cuts will be across Seberang Perai Utara, Tengah and Selatan.

In a statement today, PBAPP said it will be shutting down part of the Sungai Dua water treatment plant to replace damaged valves.

“PBAPP will also carry out other works at the same time to avoid repeated disruption in future.

“We are repairing a 1,200mm diameter pipe in Permatang Ara and Tenaga Nasional Berhad is carrying out maintenance at Bukit Minyak pump station,” the statement said.

PBAPP said more than 173,000 customers will have their water supply cut off and 24,500 will experience low water pressure.

The company estimated that it would take 48 hours to complete the work and restore service.

“PBAPP will maximise water production at LRA Air Itam and other water treatment plants on the island to minimise the impact. Water storage in reservoirs will also be maximised,” it said.

The statement said it is working with the volunteer fire brigade to supply tankers after the first 12 hours.

PBAPP apologised for the inconvenience and urged consumers to store water ahead of the interruption. – Bernama, November 23, 2022.
