POLICE have set up roadblocks at strategic locations nationwide to guarantee national security, Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said.

In a statement, the IGP said no roadblocks will be set up during peak hours to ensure smooth traffic flow, adding that security in the country is under control.

“From November 22 until further notice, police will set up roadblocks at strategic areas nationwide on a 24-hour basis as part of our effort to prevent crime through the increasing level of omnipresence to ensure security and public order,” he said.

“To ensure smooth traffic flow, no roadblocks will be set up during peak hours.”

The instruction from the IGP today came a day after he issued a stern warning to social media users against creating tension or making provocative statements that could threaten public order.

Yesterday, Acryl Sani said the police had detected posts tinged with racial or religious sentiments and insults aimed at the monarchy, as the latest political uncertainty unfolds.

“We are warning social media users to refrain from abusing the platform to spread provocative content that may cause public alarm.

“Strict action under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the Sedition Act or the penal code will be taken against anyone trying to create a situation that threatens public safety and order,” he said in a statement last night.

On Saturday, Pakatan Harapan won 82 parliamentary seats, followed by Perikatan Nasional with 73 and Barisan Nasional (BN), 30.

Political leaders are still discussing who can form a government, and BN lawmakers are scheduled to meet the king today. – November 23, 2022.
