Nominations for Padang Serai, Tioman to go ahead tomorrow

NOMINATIONS for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat in Kedah and Tioman state seat in Pahang, will be held tomorrow, the Election Commission said.

Polling for both constituencies was postponed following the death of the candidates M. Karupaiya and Yunus Ramli for Padang Serai and Tioman respectively.

In a statement, the EC said the Padang Serai nomination centre will be at the Kulim Hi-Tech Sports Complex, while in Tioman, the centre will be at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Rompin.

The EC has set December 7 for polling day and December 3 for early voting.

The EC said current nominees do not have to submit their papers again, but have to be present at the nomination centre to draw lots for their position on the ballot paper.

Karupaiya, 69, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate and incumbent for Padang Serai died on November 16.

He was due to stand against Hamzah Abd Rahman (Gerakan Tanah Air), C. Sivaraajh (Barisan Nasional), Mohd Bakhri Hashim (Warisan), Azman Nasrudin (Perikatan Nasional) and Independent candidate Sreanandha Rao.

PH is expected to announce its candidate tonight.

Meanwhile, Yunus, 61, was PAS Sungai Puteri branch leader and died on polling day. – November 23, 2022.
