THERE is no decision yet on a new prime minister and there is no timeline to the appointment, said Anwar Ibrahim.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman said the matter was now left to the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
“The new timeline is at the discretion of the Agong,” he told reporters after an audience with the monarch at 4.30pm today.
“For now, there is no decision made on a new prime minister,” the PKR president added.
Anwar said the king expressed his desire to have a strong and formidable government that was inclusive of all races and religions.
“This allows the government to focus on solving the problems of the people and resuscitating the economy”.
Anwar also said the king stressed that he has been wanting a unity government.
“Agong has consistently, over the years, urged Malaysians to unite, even when Ismail (Sabri Yaakob) and Muhyiddin (Yassin) were appointed as prime ministers, but they failed to do that.
“I’m different. I’ll obey and follow (the king’s wishes),” he said.
Anwar said for the time being, a minority government was not in consideration.
Earlier today, the king summoned both Anwar and Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin to the palace after none was able to muster numbers to form the federal government as well as for the appointment of prime minister.
Muhyiddin, who arrived to the palace at 4.05pm left after an hour without speaking to the press.
Now, the palace has summoned all 30 Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmakers to the palace tomorrow for an individual meeting session.
The BN MPs are scheduled to meet the king from 10.30am tomorrow. – November 22, 2022.
