PARTI Warisan Sabah is supporting a Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition to form the federal government, its president Mohd Shafie Apdal said.

“Warisan gives its support to PH and BN because both have the number of seats to form a government and the majority of the people have voted for PH and BN.

“As such, PH and BN should be given the first choice to form a government. This support is also on the premise that the new federal government will resolve in full the 21 claims under the Malaysia Agreement of 1963,” he said in a brief statement as negotiations to form the federal government continued today.

Warisan won three parliamentary seats – Lahad Datu, Kota Belud and Semporna.

Shafie said Warisan hoped that both pacts would be able to secure partners that will bring political stability and unity to the country.

On Saturday, PH won 82 parliamentary seats, followed by Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 73 and BN with 30.

This resulted in a hung parliament as neither coalition achieved the simple majority of 112 seats to form a new federal government.

PH and PN both claim to have secured the numbers to form a federal government and are set to submit details of the coalitions supporting them and their choices for prime minister to the palace by 2pm today. – November 22, 2022.
