PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has submitted more than 112 statutory declarations from lawmakers to support Muhyiddin Yassin’s appointment as prime minister, Hamzah Zainudin said.

The PN secretary-general said the number of SDs was more than the required 112 needed under the Federal Constitution to appoint a prime minister to form a government.

PN won 73 seats in Saturday’s general election and needs to form alliances with other pacts to set up a new government.

Pakatan Harapan (PH), which won 82 seats, is also undertaking a similar move.

Earlier today PH and Barisan Nasional (BN), which has 30 seats, held talks of working together with a final outcome yet to be officially made known.

Of the other pacts, Gabungan Parti Sarawak has 22 seats, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (6), Warisan (3), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (1) and two Independents (1 each).

Hamzah did not disclose who were the other lawmakers who signed SDs in support of Muhyiddin.

The parties were supposed to have submitted their SDs to the Dewan Rakyat speaker by 2pm today for the Agong to make a decision on the new prime minister.

However the palace has extended the deadline for any coalition to form the federal government and nominate a prime minister to 2pm tomorrow.

Royal comptroller Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the decision was made by the Agong following a request from political parties, which the palace received today.

Earlier today BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he was seeking more time from the palace to decide on their support. – November 21, 2022.
