THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened eight investigation papers against Penang civil servants from 2020 until 2022 for offences related to corruption, abuse of power and embezzlement.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government is open to any investigation by authorities regarding corruption and abuse of power involving excos, assemblymen, and government employees.

“Any report of wrongdoing will be investigated by the enforcement agency concerned,” he said at the Penang assembly in George Town today.

He was responding to a question by Mohd Yusni Mat Piah (PAS-Penaga) who wanted to know how many MACC cases are being investigated in Penang involving excos, assemblymen, and state government employees.

Chow said for investigations involving state government employees, disciplinary bodies can take action under Regulation 44 of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) 1997 or the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) (Penang) 1997 for the purpose of suspension of work involving criminal proceedings.

He said the state government has and will take action after a complete report is received from the MACC on misconduct involving excos, assemblymen, and state government employees if the case has not been taken to court.

“The state government will not withhold any information related to the MACC reports,” he added. – Bernama, November 21, 2022.
