FORMER Rembau MP, Khairy Jamaluddin has become the latest Umno man to call for Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s resignation.

The former Health Minister who lost in yesterday’s general election said on Twitter that Umno reform should start immediately, thus the president must resign.

“In a war, the general takes full responsibility for decisions, especially after many of his men died in battle.”

“The president must resign now. Umno reform must not be postponed,” said Khairy.

Khairy who was sent to contest in PKR’s stronghold in Sungai Buloh lost to Ramanan Ramakrishan with a slim majority.

Several Umno leaders have quit their respective posts in order to pressure Zahid to do the same.

Noh Omar quit as Selangor Umno chief after losing confidence in Zahid.

The former Tanjung Karang lawmaker told reporters that he had decided to throw in the towel after Zahid dropped him as a candidate in the general election.

He said this signalled a loss of confidence in his stewardship by the party’s state chapter and said Zahid should also do the same after the party’s disastrous outing in the polls.

MCA and MIC have joined in the chorus by calling for the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman to step down following the coalition’s poor performance in the general election.

MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon said his party had lost confidence in Zahid and urged him to give way to someone new to lead the coalition.

Former MIC vice-president C. Sivarraajh urged Zahid to “take a rest and let others lead”.

“Do the right thing sir. You are a friend to me but I think you should let others lead. It’s a clear message from Malaysians. Please take a rest sir,” he tweeted.

MIC Wanita chief Mohana Muniandy said Zahid must step down as BN chief and Umno president to take responsibility for the coalition’s defeat in the general election. – November 20, 2022.
