COALITION leaders must inform Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun whether they have secured a parliamentary majority and submit their choice for prime minister to Istana Negara before 2pm tomorrow, Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said today.

According to Fadil, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has asked for Azhar’s co-operation to ensure political leaders negotiate among themselves.

“It must be completed before 2pm tomorrow,” he said in a statement.

The statement from the palace came after Al-Sultan Abdullah met with Election Commission chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh, who had informed the king that no one coalition had successfully achieved a simple majority.

Pakatan Harapan won 76 seats, while its coalition member Sarawak DAP garnered five seats and Muda one, for a total of 82 aligned seats.

Perikatan Nasional and PAS won 51 and 22 seats respectively, for a combined total of 73 seats.

Meanwhile, BN could only muster 30 seats, with many of the coalition’s leaders becoming casualties.

GPS claimed 22 seats, with GRS (6), Warisan (3), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (1) and Independents (2) also registering wins. – November 20, 2022.
