Sarawak DAP looks set to retain 5 seats

DAP looked set to retain its Chinese-majority seats of Kuching, Stampin, Lanang and Sibu, and its only Dayak-majority seat of Mas Gading.

In Bandar Kuching, its candidate and the incumbent Kelvin Yii has picked 27,875 votes to open a 1,588 vote lead over the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) challenger Tay Tze Kok who at the latest count, picked up 10,588 votes.

The third candidate, Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan, contesting under the Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) banner, is far behind with 1,064 votes.

In Stampin, Sarawak PH chief Chong Chieng Jen is leading comfortably. His closest challenger Lo Khere Chiang of GPS is more than 4,000 votes behind.

DAP’s Lanang incumbent, Alice Lau has 23,265 votes to lead GPS’ Wong Ching Yong who has so far picked up 13,159 votes.

The other two candidates, PSB’s Priscilla Lau and Independent Wong Tiing Kiong are out of contention.

In Sibu, Oscar Ling, who had picked 23,342 votes so far. His closest challenger, GPS’ Clarence Ting Ing Horh has picked up 17,466 votes.

The man whom most pundits predict would give Ling a run for his money, PSB president Wong Soon Koh has picked up only 7,919 votes.

In Mas Gading, DAP’s Mordi Anak Bimol is leading with 11,469 votes in the constituency of 47,171 voters. His nearest challenger, GPS’ Lidang Disen has picked up 8,358 votes.

Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s Ryan Sim Min Leong is a non-contender with 1,599 votes.– November 19, 2022.
