VOTER turnout was 65% as of 3pm, according to the Election Commission (EC).

This translates to 13.8 million votes cast.

Voting has been brisk, despite the gloomy weather in many parts of the country.

The EC has set up a total of 9,560 polling stations, comprising 38,990 streams, for voters to cast their ballot from 8am to 6pm on the peninsula, while booths in Sabah and Sarawak are open from 7.30am to 5.30pm.

Malaysians will vote for candidates in 221 parliamentary constituencies (Padang Serai has been postponed to December 7) as well as 117 state seats in Perak, Perlis, Pahang, and the state constituency of Bugaya in Sabah.

There are 21.2 million people eligible to vote, including 5.8 million additional voters, following the change in the law to reduce the minimum voting age to 18.

A simple majority of 112 will be needed to form the federal government.

Key leaders have already cast their ballots, including Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Bersatu vice president Radzi Jidin and his PN colleague in Gombak, Mohamed Azmin Ali. – November 19, 2022.
