PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) expects to win enough seats for a majority, the coalition’s election director Mohamed Azmin Ali said today.

The Gombak candidate said he hoped PN would be given a clear mandate to lead the country without having to form an alliance with other coalitions.

“PN is vying for 171 seats. That means we are aiming to secure enough seat without having to enter into coalition with other parties.

“We have been working very hard in the last few months to ensure that PN will get enough support to form the government,” said Azmin, who was voting at SK Klang Gates in Gombak.

There are 222 seats in the lower house of parliament.

Polls have suggested that no single coalition will be able to win a simple majority of 112 seats.

“I don’t want to speculate.  I’m confident that PN will secure enough seats to form the government,” he said.

Azmin, who was among the lawmakers who defected from PKR to Bersatu in 2020, is in a five-cornered contest for the Gombak seat, taking on Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari of Pakatan Harapan, Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (Barisan Nasional), Aziz Jamaludin Mohd Tahir (Pejuang), and Zulkifli Ahmad (Independent).

PN comprises Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan and Sabah-based parties Parti Progresif Sabah and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku.

  • AA, you are entitled to dream on but the wake up call is in a few hours time. I think you are in for a nightmare......there will be MACC after you too, after MACC has been revamped to serve the nation and not the political leaders.
