Perikatan candidate for Tioman state seat dies, election postponed

THE Perikatan Nasional candidate for the Tioman state seat Md Yunus Ramli died early this morning on election day.

Yunus, 61, died about 3.30am of heart complications, Sinar Harian reported.

The election for the N41 Tioman state seat has been postponed, Rompin parliamentary returning officer Ahmad Nasim Mohd Sidek told Bernama.

He said the Election Commission (EC) will issue a statement later regarding the status of the Tioman state seat, which is under the Rompin parliamentary constituency.

Pahang EC director Zamree Hamli said an official statement will be issued later today.

Yunus was pronounced dead in Rompin Hospital at 3.30am today after he was rushed there by family members.

He was the Sungai Puteri PAS division chief who had run for Tioman in 2018.

This leaves four contenders for the seat, who are Sulaiman Bakar (Independent), Osman A. Bakar (Pejuang), Mohd Fadzli Mohd Ramly (Pakatan Harapan) and Mohd Johari Hussain (Barisan Nasional).
