AUTHORITIES reported the number of flood victims in Johor, Selangor, Kelantan, Sarawak and Perak dropped last night, while the situation in Pahang had improved as of 9pm.
In JOHOR, there were 283 people sheltering from floods, following the closure of the Dewan Utama Kampung Ithnin Maarof centre in Kluang.
The disaster management committee said evacuees were spread across Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak and Dewan Komuniti Tasek shelters in Segamat, and SK Simpang 5 Darat and SA Simpang 5 Darat in Tangkak.
“All the victims have not yet been allowed to return home due to stagnant floodwaters,” it said.
There was more rain in Batu Pahat, Segamat and Tangkak, and sunny in seven other districts.
In SELANGOR, the state Civil Defence Force disaster management committee secretariat reported 1,153 people were still sheltering from floods as of 7.40pm, down from 1,625 people earlier in the day.
Some 16 shelters were still open, six in Sepang, four in Kuala Selangor, three in Klang, two in Sabak Bernam and one in Kuala Langat.
In KELANTAN, there were 667 evacuees in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, as of 8 pm, down from 1,053 people in the morning.
According to the Social Welfare Department, the evacuees were sheltering in SK Tok Deh, SK Kubang Kual, PPS Putat Tujoh and SK Gual Periok.
In SARAWAK, the disaster management committee said three people were sheltering in Dewan Kompleks ICQS Tedungan in Limbang as of 7pm.
In PERAK, 844 people were still sheltering from floods as of 8pm.
Three shelters – Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Sungai Baru Trong, Larut Matang dan Selama; Dewan Orang Ramai Kuak Luar, Hulu Perak, and Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Piandang, Kinta – were closed, reducing the number to 10.
However, Dewan SMK Abd Rahman Talib Batu 4 and Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Padang Tembak in Hilir Perak and SMK Layang-Layang Kiri, SK Layang-Layang Kiri and SK Titi Gantong in Perak Tengah reported more people coming in.
In MALACCA, there were 44 people in shelters as of 8pm, according to the disaster management committee secretariat.
Authorities reported they were being housed in the Durian Tunggal State Constituency Development and Co-ordination Committee office.
In PAHANG, authorities said everyone had returned home and all shelters had been closed. – Bernama, November 19, 2022.
