THE election campaign to canvas for support is at its last leg now but leaders of two major coalitions are taking different approaches in wrapping up the support for them and their pacts.

While Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has decided to stay put in his constituency Bagan Datuk, Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to do quick flying visits to states from the north to the Klang Valley.

Zahid, who is also Umno president, is set to participate in a prayer event in Bagan Datuk tonight with independent preacher Ebit Lew.

Invitation for the religious event is posted on Zahid’s social media platforms.

The Jom Selawat event is scheduled to take place at Waterfront Bagan Datuk starting at 9.45pm. It is one of his campaigns to retain the seat he has held for five terms.

However not everyone has been quite impressed with this programme, largely because Ebit is facing 11 charges related to sexual harassment.

Twitter user @ChekMad said that Ebit and Zahid shared similarities because they are facing a court case.

“I don’t want to say it, but there are two court cases that are ongoing and have not been completed,” he said.

The same view was expressed by another Twitter user @Paduka, who said: “That’s good, there are two cases going on.”

Zahid was acquitted of 40 charges of corruption related to the foreign visa system at the Shah Alam High Court last September.

However, he is still defending himself at the Kuala Lumpur High Court against 47 charges related to the Yayasan Akalbudi fund.

In Bagan Datuk, Zahid faces challenges from Dr Muhammad Faiz Na’aman from Perikatan Nasional, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (PH) and Tawfik Ismail (Independent).

On the other hand, Anwar is busy doing his rounds to support PH candidates.

He has been on whirlwind campaign stops throughout the week, and it is set to continue in the last 48 hours before polling day.

For today, he went to bat for a PH candidate in Titiwangsa at 1pm, followed by a programme in Shah Alam an hour later.

Later in the evening, Anwar is scheduled to be in Kangar, Perlis, for a mega ceramah at Dataran Dato’ Sheikh Ahmad and finally in Kuantan at 8.30pm for another ceramah.

He is then scheduled to return to Kuala Lumpur, ending today’s campaign at Bandar Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur where his wife Dr Wan Azizah Ismail is the candidate.

In between, Anwar will also be delivering a special message to Malaysians at 6pm via his social media platforms.

Malaysians will vote on Saturday. – November 17, 2022.
