85% turnout for GE15 early voting as at 2pm, says EC

THE voter turnout for the early voting process today stood at 85% as at 2pm, the Election Commission said. 

A total of 224,828 early voters will cast their ballots at 661 early voting centres for the general election (GE) and the Bugaya by-election today. 

Election Commission (EC) secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said in a statement today, of the figure, 117,473 were military personnel and their spouses and 107,355 General Operations Force personnel and their spouses. 

“For this purpose, the designated early voting centres will open from 8am to 5pm. However, some voting centres will close early. 

“The EC also advises early voters who are Covid-positive to contact the District Health Officer to facilitate their early voting process,” he said. 

Ikmalrudin said all ballot boxes would be kept in police station lockups and the counting of ballot papers would be conducted on polling day this Saturday (November 19) starting at 4pm at counting stations designated by the EC and witnessed by agents of the respective candidates. 

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the early voting conducted nationwide for GE15 was proceeding systematically. 

He said the voting process at the 661 polling centres for early voters, involving 970 channels, went smoothly and orderly. 

“Based on the feedback from the Election Commission (EC) observers, they said the early voting process this year is one of the most systematic,” he told the media when met after casting his vote today. 

He said the polling centre at Bukit Aman, with 15 channels, would involve 6,423 members of the police force. 

Acryl Sani, who cast his vote at Bukit Aman at 10.20am, advised members of the police force to fulfil their responsibility by exercising their rights as voters. – November 15, 2022.
