114 early polling stations opened in Sarawak

A TOTAL of 114 early voting centres opened at 8am today in Sarawak to enable members of the armed forces, the police and their spouses to vote.

The centres will close in stages with the earliest at noon, and the last at 5pm.

Sarawak police commissioner Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said 55 early voting centres, involving 103 channels, were open.

He said 830 officers would vote at the state police headquarters.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Army Eastern Field Command Lt Gen Mardzuki Muhammad and his wife Sdfra Ahmad cast their votes in the multipurpose hall of 1st Division headquarters, Muara Tuang Camp, in Kota Samarahan.

Mardzuki said all 12,256 army officers and men, including those on duty at control posts at the state border, are early voters.

Checks by Bernama at some of the centres found people arriving as early as 7.15am.

The voting process for the 10th Battalion of the Sibu General Operations Force, at Lanang Camp involved 614 officers, men, and spouses.

Miri police headquarters serves as early voting centres for Miri and Sibuti, each with 1,045 and 775 early voters, respectively.

Rubiah Wang, a candidate for Kota Samarahan, also visited a polling station, as did Fadillah Yusof (Petra Jaya), Wong Ching Yong (Lanang) and Lukanisman Awang Sauni ( Sibuti). – Bernama, November 15, 2022.
