CARETAKER Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob tonight lent his support for Khairy Jamaluddin’s effort to win the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat during a walkabout in the constituency with his party man.
In the event at the Kota Damansara Uptown Night Market, accompanied by Khairy, Ismail pitched for the caretaker health minister as he met with Malay traders and diners in an effort to gather Malay votes in the constituency.
However, Ismail did not address voters and left after 30 minutes to pitch for another Barisan Nasional candidate Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
The caretaker finance minister is making his electoral debut in the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat.
In a short speech, a flamboyant Khairy said that nothing was impossible as he set his aim to win Sungai Buloh this Saturday.
The caretaker Health Minister said he couldn’t wait to start serving the people in the constituency, adding that he would do his best there, and that he will also become the first prime minister from Sungai Buloh.
“Nothing is impossible, we have to be brave to make changes, if I could start my work as an MP I would rather do it now.”
“Because I have fallen in love with Sungai Buloh. I will take care of Sungai Buloh with all my might and I believe, the wind of change can start here.”
“Let me be your MP and one day I can be your prime minister,” said a confident Khairy.
Khairy, a former Rembau lawmaker will face PKR’s Ramanan Ramakrishan.
PKR’s R.Sivarasa first won the Subang seat in the 2008 general election and defended it in the 2013 general election. After the constituency was renamed Sungai Buloh, he won the seat in the last general election with an astounding majority of more than 26,000 votes.

Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat will see seven candidates in the fray for the general election (GE).
Other contesting in Sungai Buloh are Mohd Ghazali Md Hamin (Perikatan Nasional-PAS), Mohd Akmal Mohd Yusoff (Gerakan Tanah Air-Pejuang ), Ahmad Jufliz Faiza (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), Syed Abdul Razak Syed Long Alsagoff (Independent) and Nurhaslinda Basri (Independent).
Khairy however admitted that he is facing an uphill battle in Sungai Buloh.
“This is a tough ground for me, I was sent to a hard place but let us not think about others. If you vote for me, I will repay your debt.”
“Do not listen to those who say that a vote for me is a vote for someone else,” he told the crowd.
Observers had previously said that Umno was trying to kill off Khairy’s political career by nominating him as the candidate for Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat.
Political pundits agreed that he had almost zero chance of winning in the PKR stronghold on November 19.
They told The Malaysian Insight that Khairy stood a better chance of winning if he was named as a candidate in Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan or in Tanjong Karang, Selangor where the majority of the voters are Malay.
Khairy cast doubt on his political future recently when he said he had been pushed out of Rembau by Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan, who is keen to consolidate his position in Negri Sembilan.
He also revealed that he was not willing to accept the offer (to contest in Sungai Buloh), but was left with no other options.
He was responding to BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who said the caretaker health minister wanted to contest in Sungai Buloh and that was why he was fielded in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) stronghold. – November 14, 2022.
