Zahid naming Ismail Sabri PM candidate ‘just an act’, says Bersatu info chief

Bersatu’s Wan Ismail Wan Jan says it is an open secret that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has his eye on the prime ministerial post and naming Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the Barisan Nasional poster boy is merely an act to deceive the people. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, November 14, 2022.

AHMAD Zahid Hamidi’s move in naming Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the Barisan Nasional (BN) prime ministerial candidate is just an act, Wan Saiful Wan Jan said.

The Bersatu information chief said that Zahid’s scheme was exposed when he confirmed he had offered Anifah Aman a senator post and be reappointed foreign minister, if BN were to win the general election.

”It’s no longer a secret that he plans to lead the government after GE15 and Ismail is just a puppet to deceive the people,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Wan Saiful was commenting on a report by The Edge Markets today which quoted Zahid as confirming he had made the offer of the foreign minister post to Anifah because of his good performance during his previous tenure.

Anifah was foreign minister between April 2009 and May 2018 in former prime minister Najib Razak’s cabinet.  Zahid was deputy prime minister during the final term of the Najib administration.

Wan Saiful insisted that the right to appoint cabinet members is the absolute power of the prime minister.

“I am sure Malaysians are aware of Zahid’s secret plan.

“I hope all voters will reject Zahid and give Muhyiddin Yassin a chance to lead the country through Perikatan Nasional,” he said.

Since the 2022 general election campaign began on November 5, Zahid and Umno have repeatedly tried to convince the people that BN’s stance on naming Ismail as its prime ministerial candidate has not changed.

Yesterday, Anifah appeared at the Pakatan Harapan campaign in Sepanggar, Sabah and revealed that Zahid had offered him the position of foreign minister if he did not contest in the coming national polls. – November 14, 2022.
