KHAIRY Jamaluddin wants to clean up Umno so that Malays will accept and support the party again.

He said this effort will start with his campaign to win the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat in the coming general election (GE15).

Khairy also described his candidacy in GE15, the fourth general election for him, as the biggest challenge in his political career, adding that he did not want his struggle to stop at Sungai Buloh.

“I also want to bring changes to my party (Umno) and want Umno to be seen again as the party for the Malay community.

“A lot of people have met and informed me that it’s not that they don’t like Umno but they don’t like some (individuals) in Umno,” he said as quoted by Berita Harian, speaking at a function in Sungai Buloh last night.

The outgoing Rembau MP however reminded the media not to create a fight between him and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, but said he was talking about the reality in the party.

“My friends and want to restore Umno as a noble, clean, reformed Malay party that has good leaders and can be trusted like it was in the past,” he said.

Khairy has been projecting himself as the future leader for Malaysia in his campaign in Sungai Buloh.

Earlier this week, Khairy said he wanted to become the party president and prime minister of Malaysia one day, adding that winning the Sungai Buloh seat was the beginning of that journey.

The Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat will see seven candidates in the race, but the focus is mainly on Khairy representing Barisan Nasional and R. Ramanan from Pakatan Harapan.

The other candidates are Mohd Ghazali Md Hamin (Perikatan Nasional), Mohd Akmal Yusoff (GTA), Ahmad Jufliz Faiza (PRM), and the two independent candidates Syed Abdul Razak Syed Long Al Sagoff and Nurhaslinda Basri. – November 12, 2022.

  • The best way to clean up UMNO is to let the opposition win this GE15. It will then clean by itself. Then you will have a chance to lead a clean UMNO if you think you are a clean politician.
