FOUR districts in Selangor, Kelantan and Johor are still affected by floods up to noon today.
A total of 731 victims from 175 households are still sheltering at eight temporary flood relief centres in the three states.
The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) Central Disaster Management Committee secretariat today said according to the Selangor Flood Management Committee’s monitoring, the flash flood in Kampung Budiman in Petaling district had completely receded.
Nadma said the flash flood was caused by very heavy rain within a short time, with a lot of rainwater from upstream flowing to the village areas.
“As the drainage system and reservoirs cannot handle the amount of rainwater, it flowed into residential areas.”
“About 50 homes have been affected. Victims have been relocated to Masjid Al-Falah’s temporary relief centre.”
The agency said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) yesterday issued a warning on continuous rain and cautioned that if there was significant rainfall in the basins of Sungai Besut and Sungai Setiu in Terengganu, Sungai Golok in Kelantan and Sungai Endau in Johor and Pahang, there would be floods.
It said the Kelantan Flood Management Committee secretariat reported that the water levels in some areas in the state were rising, but the situation was under control, with residents on standby to evacuate when instructed to.
Nadma said caretaker Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob chaired the special coordination meeting of the Disaster Operations Control Centre virtually at 11.45pm last night.
It said the meeting discussed flood management efforts since the northeast monsoon began on November 7 and the states involved.
“Preliminary preparations by state flood management committees and district flood management committees in terms of asset support, human resources and temporary relief centres have been launched and assistance for victims have been mobilised.”
Nadma urged residents in flood-prone areas to get the latest information and warnings at publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my, the PublicInfoBanjir Facebook page and @JPS InfoBanjir on Twitter.
