THE increasing trend in support for Barisan Nasional (BN) from the Indian community is believed to continue until the general election (GE).

BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan described it as a positive development from several series of by-elections and the Malacca and Johor elections.

“There is an increase in support for BN from the Indian community. In Malacca, for example, it went up by 28%. In Johor, the pattern continues.

“The response (from the Indian community) is very encouraging. In GE14, they would avoid the BN logo. This time, they approach BN. This will be translated through votes in this GE,” he told reporters at Taman Permata in Seremban.

Mohamad, who is contesting the Rembau parliamentary seat, said he is confident the Indian community would give their support to BN.

BN candidate for Port Dickson P. Kamalanathan said although he is a “parachute” candidate, he is accepted by the multiracial community in the constituency.

“There is no pressure at all. I feel very grateful because I have met many of the residents and their response was positive,” he said when met after a walkabout in Lukut, Port Dickson.

Kamalanathan said in his campaign, he explained to the residents about BN’s plans to make Port Dickson a tourism hub.

The former Hulu Selangor MP said there are several issues that need to be immediately addressed in Port Dickson, such as floods and road conditions.

Kamalanathan will face Negri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun of Pakatan Harapan, Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri of Pejuang, and two Independent candidates (Rafiei Mustapha and Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah) for the Port Dickson parliamentary seat.
