KELANTAN police have arrested two men for allegedly posting and distributing pictures of the general election (GE) postal ballot papers over WhatsApp.

Kelantan police chief Muhamad Zaki Harun said the arrests of the two men – one in his 20s and the other in his 50s – were carried out at 11.30pm yesterday and 2am today in Gua Musang.

“We have detained individuals for receiving and distributing (pictures of GE ballot papers) and are identifying the motive.

“Any election documents should not be distributed as this will create a negative perception in the community, besides keeping what is supposed to be secret a secret,” he said.

He said this at a GE press conference at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters in Kota Baru today.

Zaki said police will conduct a detailed investigation and discuss further action with the Election Commission.

“The two individuals involved have been remanded for three days starting today until Friday.

“The case will be investigated under Section 3(1)(j) of the Election Offences Act 1954 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said. – Bernama, November 9, 2022.
