SELANGOR will observe a state holiday on November 18, the eve of polling day, to allow out-of-towners to return to their respective states to vote.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said there are many Malaysians working and residing in Selangor, but voted in their hometowns in other states.

He also urged caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to declare November 18 national public holiday to make it easier for Malaysians to cast their ballots on November 19.

“This (state holiday) applies to both public and private sectors in Selangor,” he said.

A gazette will be published by next Wednesday to notify the public about the state government’s decision, he said.

The Pakatan Harapan-run Selangor will not be holding its state elections simultaneously with the federal polls as it wants to be prepared to face the monsoon floods. – November 9, 2022.
